Artificial Intelligence will have a huge impact across most industries, and journalism is no exception.

FT Strategies in collaboration with the Google News Initiative are proud to be publishing a new report on Artificial Intelligence in the media. In November 2023 we hosted a first edition AI Design Sprint, a full day workshop with 19 publishers hosted at Google’s London office. This report shares key insights and takeaways from the workshop and summarises some of the reoccuring themes uncovered on the day.

The report covers:

 

  • Key findings: based on the outcomes of the Design Sprint as well as wider work with news companies and AI experts, we identified several themes relevant to publishers looking to implement AI
  • The Framework: this section covers the methodology behind the five stage Design Sprint, culminating in the full day workshop
  • AI Solution Designs: each of the publishers designed an AI solution to help them take advantage of a business opportunity. The solutions presented in this section highlight the major idea categories outlined in the report, and illustrate the thought processes behind solution design on the day
