Helping five Indian publishers grow their subscription businesses

Situation

The Indian GNI Subscriptions Academy is a collaborative effort by GNI, INMA and FT Strategies. The programme helps publishers accelerate their reader revenue streams by creating a reader-first strategy and culture, optimising reader engagement and building an outcome-driven ‘North Star’ strategy.

Engagement

  • An ambitious and immersive five-month programme of discovery, North Star development and implementation, and roadmapping for experiments
  • An intensive diagnostic phase, including bespoke Google Analytics data analysis
  • In-person workshops and a series of inspiration sessions delivered by a range of industry experts

Results

  • Click-throughs via newsletters doubled for one publisher as a result of an experiment run during the programme
  • A participating publisher achieved a 560% uptick in Meter Stop Rate during the programme after running a paywall exposure experiment which utilised propensity modelling
  • One publisher has been able to raise over $2 million of Series B funding as a result of their subscriptions model continuing to be viable and successful
