North Star Foundation MAGS

This virtual North Star Foundation empowers European magazine publishers
to identify and realise a key reader revenue or engagement ambition,
guided by the FT’s North Star methodology.

Who is the Programme for?

This is a hands-on three-day virtual programme with an optional fourth day for 1:1 consulting. The programme is designed for magazine publishers with an existing base of digital readers, typically >250,000 monthly unique viewers. Alternatively, if you already generate >10% of your revenue from digital readers, this programme is also likely to be suitable for you and help you to realise your D2C ambitions.

Each day will require 7 hours of dedicated time. You should assign 3-5 individuals to the team, with a mix of editorial and advertising / commercial departments.

We have now worked with 80+ publishers across nine previous editions. The programme has received consistently excellent quantitative and qualitative feedback from previous participants, achieving a 4.6 CSAT score (customer satisfaction score) on average in 2022, and publishers have seen a strong improvement in key subscriptions business metrics.

What is the outcome?

Publishers will leave with:

  • An action plan to realise a key business ambition
  • Key next steps with milestones, outcomes & owners
  • Exclusive in-depth insights and feedback from FT experts across data, editorial and marketing
  • Conduct in-depth impact / risk / effort assessment for their North Star objective, using the FT’s proprietary NS tool
  • A network of peers and experts for support beyond the programme

Setting a North Star goal is a first step of streamlining all your efforts to grow towards a common goal as a publisher. This program offered us as a smaller publication the necessary insights to kick-start the development of our North Star goal. We for sure will be further implementing the hypothesis/experiment mindset to help figure out if a new idea is worth developing.
